Solution:

Void ratio of a soil is defined as "ratio of weight of water" in soil to weight of solid in given weight of soil.

So, "Specific gravity of soil" = 2.5

The "weight of the dry soil" sample = 100 g.

Volume of given sample = 60 ml.

According to the definition,  

\text {Void ratio }=\frac{V w}{V s}

V s=\frac{100}{2.5}=40

So, by the formula,  

e=\frac{60}{40}=1.5

So, The Void ratio is = 1.5.
