A scientist was doing an experiment with E. coli studying the effect of light on pigmentation due to a gene

he recently isolated. While he was plating the organism in the desired media, he made a mistake by

exposing the organism to UV light. To check the pigmentation, he wrapped one plate with a black cloth

and incubated whereas the other plate was incubated in the presence of light. Next day, while observing

the plates he could observe the growth of organism only in the plate that was exposed to light. Explain the

reason with the detailed mechanism.​
