A seconds pendulum clock has a steel wire. The clock shows correct time at 25°C. How much time does the clock lose or gain, in one week, when the temperature is increased to 35°C?
(alpha steel = 1.2 x 10-5 / °C)
(1) 321.5 s
(2) 3.828 S
(3) 82.35 S
(4) 36.28 S

Hey buddy,

◆ Answer- 36.288 s

◆ Explanation-

# Given-

α = 1.2×10^-5 /°C

T1 = 25 °C

T2 = 35 °C

t = 1 week = 604800 s

# Solution-

Change in temperature is

∆T = T2 - T1

∆T = 35 - 25 = 10 °C

Time gained by clock is calculated by formula-

∆t = 1/2 α∆Tt

∆t = 1/2 × 1.2×10^-5 × 10 × 604800

∆t = 36.288 s

Therefore, the clock will gain 36.288 s.

Hope that is helpful...
