A shopkeeper allows a cash discount of 12.5% on a machine A customer pays an amount of Rs 437.50 a machine . At what price is the machine listed ?

Let the listed amount of the machine be x,
SP = MP - discount
= x - 12.5x/100
= (100x - 12.5x)/100
= 87.5x/100
According to the question SP = Rs. 437.50
or, 87.5x/100 = 437.5
or, x = 437.5 x 100/87.5
or, x = Rs. 500
