Given : A single refined oil can contains 20% impurities. After double – refining it  contains 4% impurities.

To Find : How much of double- refined oil can be obtained from

30 litres of single refined oil?

Solution:

Single refined oil = 30 L

Contains 20% impurities

impurities =  (20/100)30L  = 6L

Pure refined oil = 30 - 6  = 24 L

After double – refining it  contains 4% impurities.

Let say Double refined oil  =   D  Litre

impurities  =  (4/100)D = 0.04D

Pure refined oil  = D - 0.04D = 0.96D  Litre

0.96D  = 24

=> D = 24/0.96

=> D = 25 Litre

25 Litre    of  double- refined oil can be obtained from

30 litres of single refined oil
