Side (a) of cube = 12 cm

Volume of cube = (a)3 = (12 cm)3 = 1728 cm3

Let the side of the smaller cube be a1.

Volume of 1 smaller cube

⇒ a1 = 6 cm

Therefore, the side of the smaller cubes will be 6 cm.

Ratio between surface areas of cubes

Therefore, the ratio between the surface areas of these cubes is 4:1.

Hope this helps!

i) side of the big cube = A = 12cm

number of small cubes made by big cube = n= 8
let side of the small cube = a cm
ii)volume of the each small cube(a³) = volume of big cube /n
= A³/n
=(12*12*12)/8
=216
a³ = 6³
a= 6cm
iii)surface area of the big cube = 6A²= 6*(12)²= 864 cm²---(3)

iv) surface area of the small cube = 6a²= 6*6²=216cm²---(4)
v) ratio = (3)/(4) = 864/216 =4/1
=4:1

ratio =
