here x is CA(oh)2. then carbon di oxide react with it, it turns milky.
CA(oh)2+co2=caco3+h2o

Here x is calcium hydroxide(lime water)
Reaction :
Ca(OH)2 + CO2 → CaCO3↓ + H2O
It turns milky due to the formation of white precipitate of calcium carbonate.
