A square and a parallelogram have the same area. If a side of the square is 40m and the height of the parallelogram is 20m, find the length of the corresponding base of the parallelogram.

area of the square =40×40=1600
let the base of the parallelogram be b
the area of the parallelogram=2(1/2×20×2b)=1600
2(10×2b)=1600
20×4b=1600
4b=1600/20
4b=80
b=80/4
b=20
