Answer: (b) 1.2

Explanation:

Given data

A star moves away from earth.

speed = 0.8 c m/s

emitting light of frequency =6 × 10^14 Hz .

c = speed of light = 3*10^8 m/s

To find:

frequency will be observed on the earth (in units of 10^14 Hz)

We know that,

v' = v(1-v/c)

where v = emitted frequency

v'= observed frequency

Putting values in formula we get

v'= 6 × 10^14 * (1- (0.8c) /c)

= 6 × 10^14 * 0.2

= 1.2*10^14Hz

=1.2( in units of 10^14 Hz)
