Answer:

Explanation:

As the stone reaches the ground in 4s .

t = 4s

u = 0

s = height of the cliff

a = acceleration due to gravity , g

Now, according to the equation of motion,

s = ut + 1/2at^2

s = 0.4 + 1/2 . 10 .4 . 4

(g = 9.8 m/s = 10 m/s (approx)

s = 80 m

Hope it helps!

Given:

A stone is dropped from a cliff hits the ground in 4 sec.

t= 4 sec

To Find;

Find the height of the cliff

solution:

As the stone is dropped from the cliff so it will not have any initial velocity as its dropped from the cliff.

It will fall towards the ground freely with the acceleration equals to the acceleration due to gravity.

acceleration due to gravity, g = 10 m/sec²

initial velocity , u = 0 m/sec²

We will apply equation of motion.

S = ut +1/2 at²

put the value sin the equation

S = 0xt + 1/2 gt²

S= ( 1/2)x10x4²

 = 5 x 16

 =80

Hence the height of the cliff is 80 m
