According to the problem the velocity of throwing the ball is 40 m/s

Let u the speed of throwing  = 40 m/s

Now it needs to cover 40 m distance

Let distance = s = 40 m

Let the gravitational force =  g = 10 m/s^2

Let time = t

Therefore we know,

s = ut +1/2gt^2

40 = 40t +1/2(-10)t^2

from here we need to find the t which will be our answer.
