 if 86 is 98% then 100% is 100/98 * 86. Which is 87.755 or 88, rounded to the nearest whole number.

88 problems were on the test.

Step-by-step explanation:

A student answered 86 problems on a test correctly and received a grade of 98%.

Let the total number of problems were on the test = M

Now, 98% x M = 86

=> \frac{98}{100}\times M =86\\=> M = 86 \times \frac{100}{98}

=> M ≈ 88

Hence, 88 problems were on the test.
