a tap can fill a cistern in 8 hours and another tap can empty the full cistern in 16 hours what will be the time taken to fill the cistern if both the taps are opened

Here's The Answer:

For this we need to take out the average.

Avg = sum of observations/number of observations.

Sum:
8+16
=> 24

Number Of Observation:
1+1
=> 2

sum of observations/number of observations:
24/2
=> 12

So, 12 hours are needed.
