A test to determine the hardness of water:
- A required things to test the harness of water is Soap,three test tubes,tap water,ground water and distilled water.
- Take test tube 1 and add tap water and 10-12 drops of the soap solution in it.
- Repeat the above steps with other ground and distilled water.
- Now shake all the test tubes one by one.
- You will find that the test tube having the distilled water and tap water will form a Lather.
- Whereas the test tube containing ground water does no form Lather.
- So,we can conclude that those substances which form Lather with he soap solutions are hard.
- Lather is an insoluble compound.
