The narrator plans to have his meal at a little luncheon at the Foyots, a restaurant in France.

The author was not a rich man and had less money for his meal.

A women, an admirer of his book joined him in the lunch and ordered more expensive dishes, ice cream and fruits.

She made the narrator to pay all his month’s money for the bill so the narrator was worried at first and then disgusted later at her behaviour.

The woman actually adds humour to the story by eating more but saying that it was just a snack.
