A toy train moves such that sum of its distances from two signals is always constant and equal to 10m and distance between the signals is 8m. Find the path traced by the train.

Let us assume that mutually perpendicular axes as the X and Y axes of the cartesian coordinate..

So basically your question boils down to an equation .

x+y=3

A Straight does not have any area enclosed..But the area with perpendicular axes is a right angled triangle with base 3 and height 3..

So area is 3×32=4.5units2

Edit 1:

Since locus exists in all 4 quadrants of the axes .. The answer is 4.5×4=18
