A watch is sold at 5% loss. if the cost price had been 20% more and selling price rs 115 less, there would be have been 40% loss. What is cost price?

Loss = (5/100) 100C = 5C

Selling Price = 100C - 5C = 95C  Rs

cost price had been 20% more

=> Cost Price = 100C + (20/100)100C  = 120C  Rs

40% loss = (40/100) 120C = 48C  Rs

Selling Price = 120C - 48C  = 72C   Rs

selling price rs 115 less

=> Selling Price = 95C - 115 Rs

95C - 115 = 72C

=> 23C = 115

=> C = 5

Cost Price = 100C = 500 Rs
