A water tank has a hole at a distance 'x' from free water surface. If the radius of the hole is 2 mm and velocity of efflux of water is 11m/s find 'x' (g = 9.8 m/s²).

# Given -

v = 11 m/s

r = 2 mm = 2×10^-3 m

g = 9.8 m/s^2

# Solution -

When the water is released from the hole, pressure energy is converted to kinetic energy.

m × g × x = 1/2 × m × v^2

x = 1/2 × v^2 / g

x = 1/2 × 11^2 / 9.8

x = 6.17 m

Therefore, distance of hole from free water surface is 6.17 m.
