a) The arrangements of metals in a vertical column in order of decreasing reactivities is called the reactivity series. The metals which lie towards the top are the most reactive while the middle ones are moderately reactive and the lower ones are least reactive.
b) MODERATELY REACTIVE METALS.
The moderately reactive metals are obtained from their oxide ores by a process of roasting or reduction. E.G. zinc oxide
HIGHLY REACTIVE METALS.
They are obtained from their oxide ores by the process of electrolysis. E.G Bauxite or aluminium oxide.

a metal placed above hydrogen in the activity series will displace hydrogen from water or acids. a metal placed at top of activity series of displays metal below it. Thus, a more reactive metal displaces less reactive metal from its salt solution.
(b). (i) for obtaining metals that are in the middle of reactivity series oxides of such metal can be reduced by Coke which act as reducing agent.
Eg - 2Fe2O3 + 3C ----> 4Fe + 3CO2
(ii) For obtaining metal that are high in reactivity series their oxides are reduced to metals by the process of electrolysis. example electrolysis of sodium chloride at cathode.
