Step-by-step explanation:

Let a be the side of a square, l be the length and b be the breadth of rectangle.

As length of wire is constant, perimeter of both shapes would be same,

⇒4a=2(l+b)

⇒40=2(12+b)

⇒b=18 cm

Area of square=a

2

=10

2

=100cm

Area of rectangle=lb=12×18=216cm

⇒ Area of rectangle is greater by 116cm

Answer:

SIDE OF SQUARE= 10cm

PERIMETER OF SQUARE=4×SIDE=4×10

=40cm

NOW,

LENGTH OF RECTANGLE=12cm, BREADTH=?

PERIMETER OF SQUARE=PERIMETER OF RECTANGLE

4×SIDE=2(L+B)

4×10=2(12+B)

40=24+2B

40-24=2B

16=2B

B=16/2

B=6cm

NOW,

AREA OF SQUARE=S²

=10²=100cm²

AREA OF RECTANGLE=L×B

12×6=72cm²

THEREFORE, SQUARE HAS LARGER AREA BY (100cm²-72cm²) 28cm² (ANSWER)
