Hi ,
Let the speed of the train = x km/h
speed of the taxi = y km/h
*****************************************
We know that ,
Speed = Distance/time
****************************************
According to the problem given ,
i ) Abdul travelled 300km by train,
200 km by taxi in 5 hr 30 mi
300/x + 200/y = 11/2
600/x + 400/y = 11
Let a = 1/x , b = 1/y
600a + 400b = 11 ---( 1 )
ii ) Abdul travelled 260 km by train,
and 240 km by taxi in 5hr 36 mi
260/x + 240/y = 28/5
1300/x + 1200/y = 28
1300a + 1200b = 28---( 2 )
Multiply equation ( 1 ) with 3 , and
Subtract from ( 2 ) , we get
a = 1/100 ,
Put a = 1/100 in equation ( 1 ) , we
get
600/100 + 400b = 11
6 + 400b = 11
400b = 11 - 6
400b = 5
b = 5/400
b = 1/80
Therefore ,
a = 1/100 = 1/x
x = 100 km/hr
b = 1/80 = 1/y
y = 80 km/hr
I hope this helps you.
