Napoleon di Bonaparte was born on 15 August 1769 and died on 5 May 1821. He was a French military and political leader who rose to prominence during the French Revolution and led several successful campaigns during the French Revolutary Wars . As Napoleon I , he was the Emperor of the French from 1804 until 1814, and again 1815 . Napoleon dominated European and global affairs of more than a decade while leading France again a series of coalitions in the Napoleonic Wars . He won most of these wars and vast majority of his battles , building a large empire that ruled over Continental Europe before its final collapse in 1815 .

He set out to conquer neighbouring European countries, dispossessing dynasties and creating kingdoms where he placed members of his family. Initially, many saw Napoleon as a liberator who would bring freedom for the people. He carried the revolutionary ideas of liberty and modern laws to France and other parts of Europe
