  • The Indian landmass is divided into five major physiographic divisions one of them is the northern Indian plains, these are located near the base of the Himalayan mountains that lie in the north. The plains are also called as indo-Gangetic plains.
  • The plains start to form Punjab in the north i.e the trans-Gangetic plain to the upper Gangetic plain that is the Uttar Pradesh and middle Gangetic plain that is Bihar and Jharkhand and lower Gangetic plain that is west Bengal.
