Activity to show that Hydrogen gas is released when metal

                             react with the acid

Aim:

To show the reaction of acids with metals.

Required Materials:

  • Glass rod
  • Candle
  • Test tube
  • Soap water
  • Zinc crystals
  • Dilute HCl

Procedure:

  • Set the device as shown in the figure which is attached below. Take in a test tube about 20 ml of dilute HCl and add 2 gm of zinc salt.
  • On the surface part, we will observe the gas bubbles formation.
  • Pass through the soap water the gas being developed.
  • In the soap solution that rises into the air, gas-filled bubbles are created.
  • Bring a candle which is burning nearer to the gas filled bubbles. It will shows the evolving of hydrogen gas.

The chemical reaction is as follows:
