Basically I dont know if the proteins hold adjacent cells together... because as far as I know..cells are joined together due to 3 types of junctions
1)adhering junction
2)tight junction
3)gap junction
but protein structures that help in mobility of small particles are present in cell membrane and they are of two types
1) peripheral protein
2)integral protein or intrinsic protien
