Explanation:

Advantages:

Dams are useful for many things including providing cheap electricity and water. Dams are made to last a very long time, by building them they create many jobs for many people. Dams can also can create homes and a habitat for surrounding native animals, by creating a local water source for them and for some giving them a home. Dams also protect animals by rubbish control/debris control. Dams can also store a lot of water for future use, this water can then be used for emergencies such as fires. Dams also can prevent flooding by taking the water instead of it going into the ground. Building dams also provide irrigation control, this then makes farmer’s jobs easier and provide more water for their animals.

Disadvantages:

Although there are many advantages to dams there are also some disadvantages. Dams are expansive to build and maintain, so they have to work for many years in the future to pay off their debt. Dams also can damage their surroundings. This can happen by building dams near homes, some houses will have to be demolished, to make room for the dam. Dams can also flood over causing some local homeowners get damaged. Some dams can also create earthquakes due to very deep digging. Building dams may also destroy local animal’s habitat.

1. Dams are expensive to build and maintain, so they have to keep working for a very long time in the future to pay off that debt.

2. They can be dangerous to build.

3. Dams have to run off a river and by building a dam by the river it then destroys the surroundings.

4. Some building of big dams create earth quakes, due to digging.

5. Having a dam near housing can cause floods leaving people having to give up their homes.
