Mineral dust and anthropogenic aerosols can affect Earth's climate by heating the atmosphere and cooling the surface because of their absorption and scattering of solar radiation (direct effect) as well as interacting with clouds by acting as cloud condensation nuclei and ice nuclei (indirect effect)
