in 2 cell stage pollen in anther contains two cells namely vegetative cell and generative cell and this generative cell divides into two male gamate in the 3 cell stage. in 2 cell stage vegetative cell is bigger and provides nutrition to generative cell and the latter one divides to form gamates.
