After the bank cashed a check Maureen wrote for $60, her balance was mc021-1.jpg. The equation mc021-2.jpg can be used to represent this situation, where b is Maureen’s balance, in dollars, before the check was cashed. Maureen attempted to solve the equation using the steps below. mc021-3.jpg What error, if any, did Maureen make?

Thank you for asking this question. Here is your answer:

b + (-60) = -14

We have to find b here:

b - 60 = -14

For that we will be adding be on the both sides:

b - 60 + 60 = -14 + 60

b = -14 + 60

b = 46

So that means Maureen should add 60 to both the sides.

If there is any confusion please leave a comment below.
