this fact is so to decrease the area which in turn increases pressure applied. as pressure is inversely proportional to area and directly proportional to force .

As we all know, small area exerts more pressure. Smaller the area, larger the pressure. Cutting instruments have sharp edges and hence less area. Since less area creates more pressure, it is easier to cut things easily. Hence, cutting instruments have sharp edges.
