Single Displacement Reactions:
Single Displacement Reactions also known as single replacement reaction is a chemical reaction in which more reactive element displaces a less reactive element from its compound.
This type of reaction is typically pictured like this:
A + BC → B + AC
All single displacement reactions are irreversible reactions because in such reactions, the starting materials are always pure elements but when a reaction occurs, a new compound and a different pure element is generated as a product.
In single displacement reactions, more reactive metal always displaces the less reactive metal but reverse is not possible as less reactive metals cannot displace the more reactive metals. That is why these reactions are irreversible.

A Displacement reaction is one in which one element displaces or replaces another element after a chemical reaction. When a single element reacts with a compound and replaces another single element in that compound, it is called as Single Displacement.

The more reactive element replaces the lesser reactive element, which usually precipitates out. So, the precipitated product cannot be replaced back into the original compound. The products cannot be replaced back to form the reactants. So, it becomes an irreversible reaction.

Reactions like combustion, where stable compounds like water and CO₂ gas are formed are single displacement reactions that are irreversible.
