Undoubtedly, all the transition elements are d-block elements but all d-block elements are not transition elements as there are some exceptions to it.

As Zn, Cd, and Hg are not transitions elements. They do not show properties of transition elements and have (n-1)d¹⁰ ns².

More about d-block elements

  • Differentiating electron enters into inner d orbitals (n-1)d subshell.
  • Also called as transition metals .
  • General electronic configuration (n-1)d¹⁻¹⁰ ns¹⁻² .
  • d – block elements are placed between s – block and p – block elements
  • They all are metals.
