This is because aluminium reacts with H2O and dissolved O2 to form a thin film of aluminium oxide along with dihydrogen.
A very-very small quantity of Al2O3 may dissolve in water to give a few ppm of Al3+ions in the solution.

It should not be kept in water overnight because it reacts with water and oxygen dissolved in it and forms aluminium hydroxide. This can corrode the utensil.
