Given: Amar gets 20% marks in an examination and fails by 20 marks. Ajay gets 40% of the marks and gets 10 marks more than the pass mark.

Let Total marks be x in the examination.

The required marks to pass an exam as per the given statement,

    20\%x+20=40\%x-10

40\%x-20\%x=20+10

            20\%x=30

                 \frac{1}{5}x=30

                   x=30\times5\\x=150
