Let Total marks be $x$ in the examination.

The required marks to pass an exam as per the given statement,

    $20\%x+20=40\%x-10$

$40\%x-20\%x=20+10$

            $20\%x=30$

                 $\frac{1}{5}x=30$

                   $x=30\times5\\x=150$
