Concept:

Combustion is the process through which CH4 burns in the presence of O2 and releases CO2 and H2O.

Given:

16g of CH4

16g of O2

To find:

Grams of CO2 formed

Solution:

When CH4 burns with Oxygen, it produces Carbon dioxide (CO2) and Water (H2O).

According to the question:

CH4 + 2O2 ------- CO2 +2H2O

16g + 64g  -------    44g + 36g

So, 16g of CH4 requires 64g of O2 to produce 44g of methane and 36g of water.

But only 1/4th oxygen is available, therefore the amount of CO2 will produced = 44/4 = 11g of CO2.

Hence, 11g of CO2 will produce when 16g of CH4 reacts with 16g of O2.
