Given :

For wave wound generator

Number of pole = P =  8

Number of conductor = Z = 400

EMF = 250 volt

To Find :

If the generator is to be lap wound, the number of conductors required

Solution :

Let the number of conductors for lap wound = z

EMF induced in armature = EMF = \dfrac{P\Phi N}{60} × \dfrac{Z}{A}

where  -   P = number of pole

               N = number of coil turn

               A = number of parallel path

               Z = number o f conductor

                ∅ = flux per pole

Or,   EMF = k × \dfrac{Z}{A}

For wave wound generator

   A = 2

So,   EMF = k × \dfrac{400}{2}

Or,     EMF = k × 200

Or,  k = \dfrac{250}{200} = 1.25

Again

For Lap wound generator

  A = number of pole = 8

So,  EMF = k × \dfrac{z}{A}

Or,   EMF = k × \dfrac{z}{8}

∵  EMF = 250 v  and  k = 1.25

So,   250 = 1.25 × \dfrac{z}{8}

Or,    \dfrac{z}{8} = \dfrac{250}{1.25}

Or,  \dfrac{z}{8} = 200

∴     z = 200 × 8

i.e   z = 1600

So, The number of conductor = z = 1600

Hence, if the generator is to be lap wound, the number of conductors required is 1600  . Answer
