The key to this type of question is in getting the correct diagram.We have to obtain ∆ OAB as follows :-
OA = 500 km
OA makes angle 100° with NORTH
AB = 600 km
AB makes angle 160° with NORTH
Complete ∆ OAB
/_OAB = 120°
Using Cosine Rule :-
OB² = 500² + 600² - 2 x 500 x 600 cos120°
OB = 954 km
600 / sin /_BOA = 954 / sin 120°
600 sin 120° / 954 = sin /_BOA
/_ BOA = 33°
OB = 954 /_ 123 °
OA = 500 km
OA makes angle 100° with NORTH
AB = 600 km
AB makes angle 160° with NORTH
Complete ∆ OAB
/_OAB = 120°
Using Cosine Rule :-
OB² = 500² + 600² - 2 x 500 x 600 cos120°
OB = 954 km
600 / sin /_BOA = 954 / sin 120°
600 sin 120° / 954 = sin /_BOA
/_ BOA = 33°
OB = 954 /_ 123 °
