When an ice block metls on a metal tray, the ice block will absorb heat from its surrounding.

Since the immediate surrounding is the metal tray, the heat will be absorbed from it and its temperature will reduce.

Latent heat of fusion

The amount of head required to convert one quilt amount of substance from the solid phase to the liquid phase, leaving the temperature of the system unaltered, is known as the latent of fusion.

The heat absorbed from the surroundings is only used to change the state, and that is why the temperature is not increased.
