An observer far away from a railway station hears the train starting. The sound arrives both from the steel rails and through air with a time difference of 3.5s. How far is the railway station from the observer? The speed of sound in air and steal is 340m/s and 5130m/s respectively?

let time be X sec for steal
s=d/t
d=sxt
d1=5130Xm
d 2=340(3.5+X)
d 2=350 X+1225.
we know that the distance is same
therefore d 1=d 2
5130 X=350 X+1225.
X=0.25
so now distance= speed x time
distance=5130 x 0.25
d=7182
