Roasting as it product is SO2 so it is sulphide ore and the process to get metal frm sulphide ore is called roasting

example __HgS +O2--------Hg +SO2

On heating, the ore gives SO2. This means that the ore is a sulphide ore.

We can heat the ore in presence of oxygen(also called roasting). This converts the ore into metal oxide. Then use the process of reduction to reduce the ore into its related metal.
