Nancy was comical shapeless rag doll, gifted to Helen by her aunt. The absence of eyes struck her more than any other defect. When no one could provide the solution, she pulled two beads of her aunt’s cap and indicated to get them viewed on the doll. Then the beads were sewed in the right place and Nancy got eyes.
In May 1888, Helen visited Boston with Ms. Sullivan. Helen also took her rag doll Nancy, to Boston. On the way, she forced Nancy to eat remains of mud pies which covered her with dust. At Perkins institution she was carried away to give a bath. The result was horrible. Nancy turned into just a formless heap of cotton, looking at Helen reproachfully. (10 marks)

Helen was a great woman who lost her sight and hearing power when she was a child. The beautiful bright world became dark and dull. Miss Anne Sullivan, her teacher, helped her a lot in adjusting to the new dark world. Once, Helen had gone swimming when she was at Brewstor. She was enjoying the feel of water when suddenly her foot struck against a rock and she felt herself drowning. All her efforts to save herself went in vain. But somehow, the water threw her back on the shore and she was saved. She took some time to recover and once she went to sit on a big rock and feel the ocean water. That incident didn’t defer her courage. In another instance, she had almost jumped down a big tree when there was heavy rain and she got terrified. She took some time to gather her courage but she climbed another tree. Thus, we can say that she had a great strength and courage which helped her come out of her dark and silent world.

Mouschi and Boche were the cats of Anne. Mouschi was brought by Anne to the hiding whereas Boche or the German was in the building before the arrival of the Franks. She was the warehouse and office cat. Their duties were to keep the rats away and thus protect the families hiding there. One day, a large rat bit Peter in the arm and he nearly fell off the ladder. Mouschi, Anne’s dear pet cat, used to rest beside Anne. Boche remained busy in keeping the rats at bay in the storeroom. Their paths crossed from time to time which invariably result in a fight. The warehouse cat was always the aggressor whereas, the other was ultimately the victor.

Anne Frank considered her diary, Kitty, as her best friend and made many entries in it. In her early diary entries she has described her girlhood experiences. She has mentioned that she was a spoiled little girl who felt that her mother did not love her. She had a feeling that her father loved her more than her mother. She didn’t like Mrs. Van Daan and made fun of her. But as time passed there was a change in her. She no longer acted as a spoiled girl, rather she turned into a responsible girl who made efforts to help everyone in the secret annexe. Her relationship with her mother started improving. She grew a liking for Peter, Mrs. Van Daan’s son. In the beginning she used to feel boredom in the annexe but gradually learnt to get rid of it by reading books, learning languages and doing other things which kept her busy the whole day. Life had changed and so had the meaning of life.
