When it comes to the word Devrai, it came from the two local words. They are known as Dev and rai.

The meaning of these words is God and forest respectively. It means the forest of god is called Devrai.

The forest patches can be considered as the sacred forest by the locals.  Due to this, it is called as the sacred groves.
