It is a simple question,

U have to use little mind...........

     ---  x + 3 
      5                         3
--------------------  =    ----
      1                         5
     ---  x - 1
      3

Using cross multiplication method,

         Ι 2             Ι            Ι     1           Ι
5 X   Ι ---  x + 3  Ι  =  3 X Ι    --- x - 1  Ι
         Ι 5             Ι            Ι     3           Ι

( Ι refers to bracket for the whole three lines)

2x + 15 = x - 3

Now, transposing ............

2x - x = -3 - 15
x = -18.

Hence, x = -18.
