》In 1905, Viceroy Curzon ordered the partition of Bengal. At that time the province of Bengal and it included Bihar and parts of Odisha also. The reason given for partitioning of Bengal was administrative convenience. However,the real reason behind this was to weaken the nationalist movement in Bengal. The partition of Bengal infuriated the peo India. The leaders at a meeting in Calcutta in August 1905 decided to boycott the British goods and institutions. Large public meetings and demonstrations were held throughout Bengal and new methods of mass protest envolved ,namely,the Swadeshi and the Boycott movements People were asked to discard foreign cloth were picketed .Many students boycotted government schools and institutions.
