Conical projection

Explanation:

  • A map that projects the area of the earth onto a cone whose vertex is usually on the poles.
  • The conical projections are used to apply on 2 portions of hemisphere.
  • The simple conic projection along a single latitude line is called standard parallels.
  • Longitudinal lines are projected on conical surface  that are meet at apex and the latitudinal lines are projected on the cone as a ring.
  • Example of some conic projection are albers equal area conic, equidistant conic,Lambert conformal conic,Polyconic etc.
  • The major advantage of Conic map projection is to retain conformality.
