Let the width of the path be 'x' metres .
1) Lenght of new rectangle = (20+2x)m
Breadth. = (14+2x)m
Area of Path = Area of new (bigger ) rectangle. - Area of old rectangle (small)

2) x = 3/2 m
Width of rectangle is 3/2 =1.5m.
