Anuj walks 10 km southwards. then he turns left and walks 5 km. he then turns north and walks 7 km. and thereafter turns right and walks 3 km. finally he turns left and walks 9 km. how far is he from the starting position?

Right Angle Triangle

As in the picture, Anuj first moves from point A to B then B to C and afterwards D,E and finally F according to direction.

Now draw a perpendicular from point A to FE and and name it G.

Now AG will be = 5km + 3km = 8 km

And FG will be = 9 km + 7 km - 10 km
= 6 km

So the distance between the starting point and the ending point is AF = √(FG²+AG²)
= √(6²+8²)
= √(36 + 64)
= √(100)
= 10 km.

So he is 10 km far from the starting point.
