(a) 1/R=1/R1+1/R2+1/R3

(b) parallel because

(i) voltage is equally distributed

(ii)if any device fuse then there will be no effect on other devices

(c)refer to attachment

ANS:

(a) let R1 = 7 ohms , R2= 3 ohms , R3= 1 ohm , R4= 4 ohms , R5 = 4 ohms.

here, R1 and R2 are connected in series and this series connection is connected to R3 in parallel.

Rs = R1 +R2

Rp = 1/Rs + 1/R3 = ( Rs + R3)/(Rs x R3)

also, R4 and R5 are connected in series and this connection is connected to Rs in parallel.

Rc = R4 + R5

Rn = 1/Rc + 1/Rp = 1/Rc + (Rs x R3)/(Rs + R3) = [Rs + R3 + (Rs x R3)]/[Rc(Rs+R3)]

expression =  [Rs + R3 + (Rs x R3)]/[Rc(Rs+R3)]

(b) Various electrical devices in domestic electric circuit are connected in parallel as it gives variable current. It cannot be connected in series as the current is constant throughout the electric circuit in series.

(c) effective resistance from P to Q:

Rs = R1 +R2 = 7+3 = 10

Rp = 1/Rs + 1/R3 = ( Rs + R3)/(Rs x R3) = 1/10 + 1/1 = 11/10

Rc = R4 + R5 = 4+4 = 8

Rn = 1/Rc + 1/Rp = 1/8 + 10/11 = 19/88

effective resistance = 19/88 = 0.215 ohms

HOPE IT HELPS.
