Hey,
Friend,

UNIFICATION OF ITALY....

During the middle of 19th century, Italy was divided into seven states. These were :

● Sardinia and Piedmont, ruled by an Italian Princely state.

● Lombardy and Venetia were under the Austrian Habsburg.

● Centre was ruled by Pope.

● The southern regions of Naples and Sicily were under the domination of Bourbon kings of Spain.

● The states of Parma, Modena, Tuscany.

Italy was thus fragmented. Napoleon Bonaparte called Italy a " geographical expression "meaning thereby that Italy was divided into several states ruled by separate rulers. Even the Italian language had not aquired one common form and had many local and regional variants.
The achievement of Italian of Italian unification was largely the work of its patriots Giuseppe Mazzini and Giuseppe Garibaldi and statesman and politician Cavour......

●Roles of Leaders who unified Italy......

●Giuseppe Mazzini
• Head of Republican Party.
•Founder of young Italy.
•Unification through education.

●Giuseppe Garibaldi
•Known as hero of Red shirts.
•Won support of Italian peasants.
•Drove out Spanish rulers.

●Cavour
Neither revolutionary nor a democrat yet known as the real maker of Italy, Won wars against France and Austrian through his diplomatic ways.
