Hola there,hydrogenationis used to convert alkenes and aromatics into saturated alkanes and cycloalkanes which are less toxic and less reactive for eg mineral turpentine is usually hydrogenated. Hydrocracking of heavy residues into diesel is another application

Hello!!

HYDROGENATION REACTION :-
When unsaturated compound change into satured compound in the presence of the catalyst such as nickel (ni) is called hydrogenation reaction. This reaction is also known as addition reaction.

APPLICATION OF HYDROGENATION REACTION :-

1- The process of hydrogenation is used in industry to convert vegetable oils to vanaspati ghee.
> vegetable oil + H^2----ni---->vanaspasti ghee.
Hydrogenation of vegetable oils

Vegetable oils used for cooking are long unsaturated hydrocarbons which are healthy. Whereas animal fats such as vanaspati are saturated hydrocarbons and unhealthy for consumption. It can solidify and block the arteries of the heart.
